JOB DESCRIPTION: An oceanographer is a scientist who studies the ocean. They study aspects such as the chemistry of the water (chemical oceanographers), the geology of the ocean (geological oceanographers), the movement of the ocean (physical oceanographers) and the life forms that live within it (marine biologists). The findings of oceanographers can be used to reduce the effects of things like climate change and overfishing.
Oceanographers often have to work within the ocean so may learn to scuba dive. Others work in boats or submersible vehicles.
