JOB DESCRIPTION: A mineralogist is a person who studies minerals. A mineral is a naturally occurring solid. The earth is made from thousands of minerals made of various elements. Rocks are composed of a variety of minerals. Mineralogists study rocks, gems and other minerals to find out more about them. Some mineralogists work for mining companies to enhance the processing of minerals from ores. Most other mineralogists work in laboratories at universities. Their findings can be used to tell us more about the environment.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Earth Scientists study the earth and its atmosphere. Earth science can be split into lots of different branches. The four basic areas of earth science are:
1. Astronomy (science of the universe)
2. Geology (science of the earth)
3. Oceanography (science of the oceans)
4. Meteorology (science of the atmosphere)
Earth scientists can often be found working ‘in the field’ to collect samples and data. They may then take this back to a laboratory for analysis. Their findings can be used to help protect our earth and its inhabitants.
